With spring finally showing its face here in Victoria, we should all be gearing up for the related maintenance that will soon ensue. Here are a few tips from us at Wildwood Waterscapes to help your season get a healthy jump. First and foremost, a good filter / debris clean out; Try and remove as much dead plant waste and built up organic debris from your pond as soon as possible. This will prevent an excess of nutrient early in the season. If access to the lower depths of the pond is not available, may we suggest a couple of products to speed things along. Microbe-Lift ?Sludge Away? or their ?Spring and Summer Cleaner? are two very effective substrate cleaners for any hard to get at application. Coinciding with a serious filter clean out, the next most important issue that will need attending to is Beneficial Bacteria. Most bacteria die off in the cooler weather and compete for a large portion of the nutrient in your water supply. By ?purging? your pond with beneficial bacteria early enough in the season, you effectively invest all of these bacteria immediately. This will stop a myriad of nutrient related issues that tend to plague many pond owners. May we suggest ?Microbe-lift PL? as the beneficial bacteria of choice to achieve this healthy kick off to the year. One last suggestion that should be mentioned, please don?t over feed your fish. Almost everything that we feed our fish this time of year is barely assimilated by our scaled friends. If you are feeding them any sort of ?summer? or ?color enhancing? food you will only be feeding your filter in the pond. A wheat germ based spring/fall feed is your best bet once a day, tops. If you need any assistance or maintenance done on your water feature please feel free to contact us here at Wildwood.

-Have a Great season all
